Ever wondered how to create the French look by transforming old unloved furniture using quick and simple paint techniques? Well we can teach you using Chalk Paint™, a decorative paint from Annie Sloan and waxes at our Annie Sloan approved Workshops. The workshops take place at a beautiful converted tithe barn in Sopley.

The recently updated half day workshop, An Introduction to the Annie Sloan Method , will give you all the basic skills you need to upcycle or transform funiture.

The follow on advanced workshop is Annie Sloan Techniques for Colour and Style . Also taking a half day it has been designed to build on your existing skills by exploring decorative techniques, the use of colour and how they relate to style.

Finally, for the more experienced, we offer the chance for you to bring a small piece of furniture to our Bring Your Own Furniture Workshop where you can work with the tutors to create a unique piece in pretty much any style or finish.

Craft Workshops

Why not try the Patterned Roller and Lampshade Making workshop? You don't need to have attended any of the painting workshops before however if you have, these rollers are a great addition to your portfolio of possible effects and finishes.

A great and effective technique is to transfer images from photos, adverts and lettering to either wood or fabric. On our workshop How to Transfer Images onto Wood and Fabric we'll teach you how.

Stenciling has changed a lot since the 80's and 90's so we have put together a new workshop that will bring you bang up to-date with the latest trends and techniques in the Learn to Stencil Wood & Fabric & Make Your Own Stunning Stenciled Lampshade workshop.

Annie Sloan Techniques for Colour and Style - An Advanced Workshop

This workshop has been designed to build on your existing skills by exploring decorative techniques, the use of colour and how they relate to style. It will allow you to take your creativity to the next step by introducing you to new skills of image transfer, gilding, stencils and crackled paint finishes.

Bring Your Own Furniture Workshop NEW

For those with some experience of using Chalk Paint™ and want to develop their skills with the help of experienced tutors, we are offering our BYO full day workshop.

You will need to bring a SMALL piece of furniture e.g. a bedside cabinet, pot cupboard, chair or diminutive chest of drawers. After discussion with the tutor and the group using reference examples you will choose the style of finish and main techniques you will be using. Once your project is underway, Maxine and Sue will demonstrate other techniques you might want to try and Maxine will lead you in a session on colour mixing to help you build confidence in this area. At the end of the day, you will take home your transformed piece and a head bursting with new ideas.

How to use Patterned Paint Rollers & Make a Lampshade

Fabulous patterned paint rollers to create a hand-printed look on walls, furniture, paper and fabric. This great roller system is now available to buy from Thomas & Lucia. One of only a few outlets in the entire country.

This workshop will give you a hands-on practical introduction to the roller system. During the day we will be demonstrating how to obtain great results on wrapping paper and fabric. You'll create your own wrapping paper to take home and print onto fabric ready for your lampshade which you will make in the afternoon.

Learn to Stencil Wood & Fabric & Make Your Own Stunning Stenciled Lampshade NEW

A full day workshop explaining how to use stencils to embellish furniture, transform wood and concrete floors, update cupboards, create your own printed cushions, bags and lampshades.

Stenciling has moved on since the 80's and 90's. Annie Sloan has been in the forefront of encouraging a more relaxed use of stencils. We have a large range of Annie's original stencils. and also those by textile designer Nicolette Tabram who uses Moroccan, Indian and Swedish influences to create contemporary patterns.

We will introduce you to stenciling techniques on both wood and fabric, firstly on wooden boards and then using fabric paint to create your personalized printed cotton bag. Then we will stencil a piece of linen from which to create your own drum lampshade. At the end of the day, you will take home all your creative pieces along with the skills you need to start on your own projects at home.

How to Transfer Images onto Wood and Fabric

Learn how to transfer images onto wood and fabric. The pictures can be black and white or colour or can be lettering of your choice.

You will paint and distress a wooden block onto which you will add your chosen picture. Plus we will show you how to apply an image onto fabric which you can later use to make a cushion or fabric panel. You will take home the wooden block and fabric panel you have created during the day.
